The Irony of Life...

Just when you think you have everything under control, life throws you a curve ball that you weren't expecting. That's how I felt yesterday morning when I got to work and noticed I was bleeding when I went to the rest room. Luckily I work at a hospital and I was able to go up one floor and speak to my MD friends on the labor and delivery unit. As expected, they didn't take this lightly considering I am only 28 weeks pregnant and in no way ready to deliver a 2 lb baby. They did every test they could think of and although they did notice remnants of blood, they could not come up with a defined etiology. Thankfully, this sweet baby seems to be growing perfectly, with a good heartbeat and appropriate physiology which definitely put my mind at ease. This was such a eye-opening experience and a reality check; one that I probably needed!  It was a very humbling experience to say the least and for the Virgo that I am, it was quite difficult to accept the realization that there are certain things that are not in my control. Pregnancy is most definitely one of them!! I remember lying on the hospital bed watching the ultrasound pictures and feeling such a magical bond to this sweet baby growing inside me and it was at this point that I realized that I will do anything to put this little angel first.  Even if that means being on bed-rest for the duration of this pregnancy. Before I was discharged from the hospital, they gave me all the pictures of the ultrasound and the last one read "Congratulations, It's a Girl". The hospital staff didn't realize the gender was to be a surprise, but I was so happy for the news. So with tears of happiness, a sigh of temporary relief, and a feeling of uncertainty, I went home to the realization there is nothing in this life that I should take for granted. At this point, I will make every attempt to rest and take it easy, a task I don't claim to be good at, but for the sake of my little princess; I will.

Our little blessing
